The Mysterious 'Pink Lake' I

FILM: KODAK PORTRA 800

A WHILE BACK A PHOTOGRAPHER FRIEND OF MINE POSTED A PHOTO ON INSTAGRAM OF A MYSTERIOUS LAKE IN MELBOURNE THAT SOME HOW HAD PINK WATER. I ASKED HIM WHERE IT WAS AT BUT IN TRUE 'NEVER-REVEAL-YOUR-LOCATION' FASHION...NO LOCATION WAS REVEALED. ANOTHER FRIEND OF MINE ALSO SAW THE PHOTO AND FIGURED OUT WHERE IT ACTUALLY WAS, WHICH WAS UNDERNEATH THE LARGEST BRIDGE IN MELBOURNE, THE WESTGATE BRIDGE. WE PLANNED TO GO CHECK IT OUT FOR SOME TIME AND LAST WEEK WE FOUND THE TIME TO GO. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THAT I FINISHED WORK AT 5PM AND THE SUN SET WAS AT ABOUT 5:40PM SO WE BOTH ARRIVED JUST BEFORE THE SUN SET. THE SCENCE ENDED UP BEING REALLY BEAUTIFUL WITH THE SUNSET REFLECTING ON THE WATER, BUT YOU COULDN'T SEE THE PINK WATER IN THE PHOTOS! SO I'M GONNA HAVE TO GO BACK AGAIN DURING THE DAY ANOTHER TIME TO GET SOME GOOD SHOTS OF THE LAKE.

THE WATER HAS ACTUALLY TURNED MORE RED/PURPLE THAN PINK NOW WHICH LOOKS REALLY TRIPPY AND STRANGE. THE AREA HAD A REALLY CREEPY VIBE THAT I CAN'T REALLY EXPLAIN. MAYBE IT WAS THE RED WATER...OR MAYBE IT WAS THE RANDOM WEIRD LOOKING DUDES HANGING AROUND THE CARPARK LURKING. ADDED TO THAT CREEPY VIBE IS THE REAL STATISTIC THAT UP TO ONE SUICIDE HAPPENS EVERY 3 WEEKS FROM THE WESTGATE BRIDGE. THERE IS A LOT OF LOST SOULS AT THE BOTTOM OF THAT LAKE, THAT'S FOR SURE. MAYBE THE RED WATER REMINDED ME OF BLOOD...OR MAYBE I'M JUST TRIPPIN'. REST ASSURED WE GOT THE HELL OUT OF THERE ONCE THE SUN SET!

I DID A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THE LAKE IS ACTUALLY PINK IN COLOR AS A RESULT OF THE WATER BEING SALT WATER AND SALT TOLERANT ORGANISMS SUCH AS ALGAE OR INVERTEBRATES.

IT WAS A WEIRD WEEK LAST WEEK, EVERYTHING JUST FELT A LITTLE BIT 'OFF'. ON THE DRIVE TO WORK ON EARLY SATURDAY MORNING I DROVE PAST A CAR ON FIRE IN THE CITY. IF I COULD HAVE STOPPED AND TAKEN A PHOTO RIGHT THERE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT, AS THE USUALLY BUSY STREET WAS EMPTY EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE BURNING BMW. OF COURSE I PULLED A U-TURN STRAIGHT AWAY BUT GOT A RED LIGHT AND BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE SCENE THE FIRE TRUCKS ARRIVED...DAMN.

THE LAST PHOTO SUMS UP MY WEEK PERFECTLY...'OUT OF ORDER'.

PS: NO MORE SUNSETS

ALSO, I'VE DECIDED TO ADD SONGS TO MY POSTS FROM TIME TO TIME. IT'S JUST SONGS I WAS LISTENING TO DURING THE WEEK, DURING SHOOTING OR BASICALLY SUMS UP THE FEELING I FELT DURING THE TIME THE PHOTOS WERE SHOT. MAYBE NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO THE SONGS OR THINK ITS LAME BUT IT'S MORE FOR MYSELF AS A KIND OF VISUAL AND AUDIBLE DIARY. I ALWAYS ASSOCIATE MUSIC WITH MEMORIES, SO IT'S JUST ANOTHER WAY TO BRING ME BACK TO THE MOMENT I WAS IN. KNOW WHAT I MEAN?
