Footscray Explorations

Film: Kodak Portra 160

Camera: Zeiss Ikon ZM

Had a good day out a few weeks ago with a good homie exploring the Footscray outskirts. The first stop was the 'Heavenly Queen Temple' which is modelled on Beijing's Forbidden City and is supposed to be the biggest Chinese temple in Australia when it's finished being built in 2019. It was a pretty interesting place and actually really huge but you can't really tell from the photos. I always see the temple and statue when I go past it on the train and always wanted to check it out, so it was cool to finally see it up close. The gold statue is 16 meters and a tribute to the Heavenly Queen of Mazu who is a goddess of the sea. She's actually facing the river too so it's perfect.

After that we hit up a bunch of abandoned factories and an abandoned school. We couldn't find a way into the school but it would have been really cool to get to walk around in there. Footscray is a goldmine for abandoned spots...still so many to explore..
